Starting Is The Toughest Step

Wanting to do something, always thinking about it, but never doing it… can be a exhausting.

But after many months of contemplation, here I am!

Austin, Texas is the home of over a million Mexican Free-Tailed bats that live under the Congress Ave Bridge. You can catch this incredible sight from the bridge, the land or the water between March and early Fall.

Hello
there!

I have lived in Austin, Texas for almost four years come 4th of July. We moved here to an apartment we've never seen, from 1,200 miles away with a cat between us (my fiancé and myself) and everything we owned in the U-Haul trailer behind us. We did not have any friends established here, just knew a few of my family members nearby. The apartment in Mueller was a third of the size of the apartment we were coming from in Trinity, Florida and we had to give our dining room table set to the nice guys off Craigslist who moved our stuff into the apartment the next morning. We didn't know much of anything at that moment but all I knew was that I wanted to live in Austin since I was 18 years old and here I was, in the capital of Texas, with my best friend and my kitty cat.

Change
Is
Weird

Going from an abundance of close friends and acquaintances to knowing no one our age was a huge culture shock. I work from home with employees working remotely all over the country and my fiancé hadn't started his new job yet so he wasn't making friends at work, we didn't know where to reach out and meet people. We started to go to any events, festivals, shows we could afford along with me joining Bumble BFF and the Girls New To Austin Facebook group. These both put me out of comfort zone but I enjoyed meeting new girls and going to events I wouldn't have known about otherwise.

During these times, I wondered if there were any blogs or websites out there for people new to Austin and I couldn't find anything worthwhile. With this blog I wanted to help Austin newcomers with what's the best of the best and what to not waste your time on. I will say that I prefer bourbon, BBQ, breakfast tacos and a rooftop skyline view. That being said, I will always try something once and I'm excited to bring my visitors Austin, Texas, for YOUR information.

Cheers!
