Austin Texas is known for so many things but one of the most important pieces of Austin is our BREAKFAST TACOS

My favorite taco of the day is the breakfast taco. I’m pretty sure somewhere in the science world, it’s been proven that breakfast tacos are hangover cures.

So, I’m providing you with the best breakfast tacos in Austin, where to find them, and the way I order them!

⁣⁣〰️ Leave a comment below and let me know your favorite breakfast taco so I can try it! ⁣⁣〰️

First, I have to start with the very first breakfast taco I had when I moved to Austin:

Paco’s Tacos

1304 E 51st St, Austin, TX 78723

The man who started this incredible restaurant, Francisco Marcado Sanchez aka “Paco”, spent many years working to perfect the taco. In the army, Paco met his wife, Cece, who came as an angel by his side when he was shot. Together, they opened a restaurant out of their home in San Antonio and then with the same recipes, opened a restaurant in Austin for us to enjoy their home cooking!

Their tortillas are homemade, special corn/flour blend, all of their salsas are made in-house, all food made to order, and they have such a warm, family-orientated environment.

Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ

11500 Menchaca Road, Austin, TX 78748

Another family-owned restaurant, well… a permanent trailer includes Valentina’s.
Using Hartley Ranch Beef & Pork products, fresh hand-rolled tortillas, homemade salsa, Miguel Vidal, with his wife, business partner, and brother have built a very successful name in South Austin. Using mesquite wood to create the bold smoke flavor, their brisket or pulled pork sits on top of eggs, potatoes, bacon, refried beans, salsa, and flour tortillas on their signature breakfast taco, the Real Deal Holyfield [$9]*.

Franklin Barbecue Food Truck

900 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702

_DSC5495.JPG

Aaron Franklin likes to keep himself busy, is my assumption, when I see all of the business ventures he has started. His most recent one is “Tacos & Coffee” which is an Airstream trailer set up behind his barbecue joint selling, you guessed it, tacos and coffee!

They are selling 3 item minimum Tacos [$3]* with the following items: chopped brisket a la plancha, house-made chorizo, house patty sausage, bacon, eggs, cheese, potatoes, refried beans, or guacamole on flour tortillas

Regarding the coffee they offer, they serve espressos, americanos, macchiatos, cortados, cappuccinos, lattes, drip coffee, or pour overs.

For the non-coffee drinkers, there is hot tea, hot chocolate, ramblers, and Mexican coke.

This is a great way to try some Franklin brisket without the wait, by the way! (but won’t be EXACTLY the same, of course)

Veracruz All Natural

With locations that are conveniently all around Austin, Veracruz has a brick-and-mortar and a couple of food trucks. The one that I frequent is near the South Lamar area, parked in front of Radio Coffeehouse. This taco joint was founded and ran by the Vazquez sisters back in 2006, originally selling smoothies and snow cones but in 2010, they started cooking tacos and the rest is history.

*Disclaimer: There are different menus at different locations.

Tacodeli

If you’ve been in Austin and someone has mentioned breakfast tacos, most likely Tacodeli was mentioned during the conversation. Tacodeli is only open during breakfast and lunch, so don’t miss out on your chance on some staple breakfast tacos. The first-ever Tacodeli opened in 1999, 20 years ago, and since then, it stays farm-to-kitchen-to-table. All of the food is locally sourced, they use pasture-raised eggs, and believe in only using high-quality meats.

Ever heard of mashed potatoes on a taco? Well, you can get them here on your build your own taco.

We close at 3PM, because our tacos taste better when our people aren’t overcooked.

Juan in a Million

2300 E Cesar Chavez St, ATX 78702

An unassuming building in East Austin, that always has a line wrapped around it is home to one of the largest breakfast meals in Austin.

Juan in a Million, opened by two married school teachers in 1980, is still a family-owned and operated business. The meals being served are the original recipes, like the Don Juan taco, “a heaping plate of bacon, potatoes, eggs, and cheese on a warm tortilla.”

Tyson’s Tacos

4905 Airport Blvd, ATX 78751

After Tyson and Cherry Blankemeyer moved away from their home and restaurant in Monterrey Mexico due to the violence and chaos, they decided to come to Austin. They spent time researching the original tacos in Austin, and now they offer authentic Austin tacos at our local Tyson’s Tacos. (*)

Vaquero Taquero

104 E 31st St, Austin, TX 78705

The Cobos brothers, Dani and Miguel, came from Monterrey, Mexico to Austin and started Vaquero Taquero in 2016. At first, it was served from a modified push-cart downtown and promoted to a food truck in the beautiful Hyde Park a year later. Now, operating from a brick and mortar serving tacos with their handmade tortillas, they have grown into a city-wide name, on lists of top ten tacos. (*)

Fun Fact: Vaquero Taquero calls their breakfast tacos: Vreakfast Tacos!

Peached Tortilla – [In the airport]

3600 Presidential Blvd, ATX 78719 - Main Terminal - Between Gates 7 & 8

As a small version of a restaurant in Austin, Peached Tortilla, is also at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. They are making sure that they offer their best dishes from their popular restaurant off Burnet, like their tacos and bowls. Given that it’s a restaurant in an airport, you might not expect the quality to be stellar but the breakfast tacos I get there are still delicious!

Hours: Unsure (Don’t see any listed online)

What I Order: Brisket & Egg Tacos

Hope you enjoyed my list, if you have some favorites, please comment below!

Get out of bed, start your day with breakfast tacos… or since you’re in Austin, you can enjoy breakfast tacos ANY time of the day!

Cheers!
